Photographers can get to the heart of a news story in a single shot - hear experts in the field discuss the state of photojournalism in Australia and the world. Former The Age editor Michael Gawenda looks at the changing landscape of photojournalism, in conversation with top photojournalists such as Simon O’Dwyer (The Age), Julie Millowick and Fay Anderson (Monash University).
This event is held in partnership with the Walkley Foundation and complements the 2014 Nikon-Walkley Press Photography exhibition, currently on at the State Library until 8 February.

Announcing FiPP3, the 2015 Fremantle International Portrait Prize


Dates set for international portrait award:

  • $12,000 + in cash and prizes (Australian currency)


Dear Photography Enthusiast

Hello and welcome to the third Fremantle International Portrait Prize (FiPP3), a worldwide competition that aims to promote portrait photography and raise funds for research into, and assistance for people with, arthritic conditions.

TIMELINE NEWS

The Organising Committee has released the timeline for the 2015 competition.

The official entry portal will open for the submission of digital entries on 15 June 2015.

Entries will be accepted for the following two months with the entry portal closing on 21 August.

The ‘long list’ of entries (the top 30% of all entries received) will be published on this website in mid- September 2015.

From these images, the independent judging panel will ‘short list’ 75 (or more) images which will form the official exhibition in Fremantle, Western Australia.

The official (invitation only) announcemenof winners will be held at the Gallery on the evening of Saturday 24 October 2015.

Details of each development will be posted on the official FiPP3 website.

The Exhibition will be open to the public from 25 October to 8 November at The Moore’s Building Contemporary Gallery, inHenrry Street, Fremantle.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW FOR 2015
  • Prize pool has increased to over $12,000 in cash and prizes with a cash prize of $5,000 for First Place, photographic goods and/or services for Second and Third Places and $200 (AUS) now offered for the fourth to tenth place-getters.
  • Entry fee will be just $20 (AUS) per image (maximum of 5 images per entry).
  • Each week during the entry period one or more entries will be featured on our website as the 'Entries Of The Week' and gain automatic entry onto the long list (of the top 30% of all entries as judged by our judging panel).
